I have more than 15 years of experience leading workshops, and educational program development for children of all ages.  In addition to having taught workshops at Stratford, the Festival of Classics, Shakespeare Link Canada, and Shakesperience, among others, I also run in-school drama workshops.  My mandate is to make dramatic text fun and accessible, and to create a supportive classroom environment where young actors can take risks and learn about performance and production.

All in-school drama workshops are structured to fulfill school curriculum requirements.  Students will, through listening, speaking, reading, writing, viewing and representing:

  • explore thoughts, ideas, feelings and experiences;
  • comprehend and respond personally and critically to oral, print and other media text;
  • manage ideas and information to enhance the clarity and artistry of communication; and
  • respect, support and collaborate with others, working within groups to strengthen community.

Below is a sampling of workshops I teach.  All workshops can be tailored to suit your classroom’s needs:

Based on your choice of play, a workshop with a menu of activities and exercises will be tailored to suit the specific needs of your class.  These workshops have been taught and designed for students from grades 5 to a University level.  Introduction to Shakespeare, Monologue and Scene Study courses are available.

A fun introduction to improvisation using multiple games and exercises to develop performance skills and story-telling abilities.

The Business of Acting

For drama students seriously considering acting as a career.  In this class we discuss creating a resume and cover letters, doing taxes as a self-employed person, unions, getting an agent, typical salaries, and how to prepare for the realities of pursuing your dream.

Theatre Auditions

In this class we will investigate how to prepare for an audition, choosing a monologue, the process of working on the monologue, what to expect inside the room, and auditioning etiquette.

Choose a modern or Shakespearian play that we will edit to suit the level of your class.  Students will be given tools to develop a process when working on a role, and the opportunity to learn the basics about different aspects of production.  We will then rehearse and perform the play!

I also provide one-on-one personalized acting instruction.  If you have an upcoming audition or just want to improve your craft, benefit from personal coaching specific to your needs.
